Arkansas Man Arrested for Allegedly Making Death Threats to CNN’s Don Lemon

    Ilya S. Savenok

An Arkansas man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly called CNN headquarters more than 40 times and made death threats against anchor Don Lemon, according to a report from USA Today. During the calls, which took place between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, Benjamin Craig Matthews allegedly leveled many threats against Lemon, including a request to be transferred to Lemon’s “dead body hanging from a tree” in one instance, and to “pipe bombs for Don Lemon” in another. Authorities from the Atlanta Police Department reportedly identified Matthews by tracking his phone. After investigating the matter further, authorities determined that Matthews had also contacted Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Michael Avenatti, the Washington Speakers Bureau, and Planned Parenthood. Matthews has been accused of “five felony counts of terroristic threatening, nine misdemeanor counts of harassing communications and four misdemeanor counts of second-degree terroristic threatening,” USA Today reports. He is currently in jail on $15,000 bond.
