Days before Bill Cosby’s Monday sentencing hearing, the disgraced entertainer’s wife said she has retained a former prosecutor to investigate Pennsylvania Judge Steven T. O’Neill, who presided over both of Cosby’s criminal trials. In a statement, Camille Cosby said former prosecutor Brian Perry will “facilitate my efforts to uncover the truth regarding the longstanding and ongoing feud between” O’Neill and former Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor, who refused to prosecute Cosby in 2006 and was a witness at his trial. In a motion filed last week, Bill Cosby’s lawyers called for O’Neill to recuse himself from the case, accusing the judge of being biased against Cosby due to a political feud with Castor. O’Neill and Castor previously ran against each other for Montgomery County DA. “This court is confident that it has and can continue to assess this case in an impartial manner, free of personal bias or interest in the outcome,” O’Neill wrote in an order denying Cosby’s motion, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. “The court will not recuse itself.”
