California GOP Rep. Jeff Denham Ousted by Democrat Josh Harder

Democratic newcomer Josh Harder has ousted Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA) a week after midterm elections, flipping the fourth GOP House seat in California to the Democrats, the Associated Press reports. Harder, a 32-year-old venture capitalist, had a lead of about 4,900 votes in California’s 10th District when the race was called late Tuesday. He had largely centered his campaign on pushing for universal health care in Congress. “This has been a hard fought campaign and we congratulate Congressman Denham and his family for his service to our nation in the military and to this district in Congress,” Harder said in a statement. Denham, who was first elected in 2010, joins Steve Knight and Dana Rohrabacher as Republicans who lost re-election bids in California this month. Two other California seats currently held by Republicans have yet to be called after last week’s vote.
