Elon Musk says he “deleted [his] Tesla titles” last week to “see what would happen.” “I’m now the Nothing of Tesla,” Musk wrote in a Monday tweet. “Seems fine so far.” The head of Tesla and SpaceX then posted on Twitter about an hour later that he would need to keep some title in order to avoid legal troubles and mixups from authorities. “Legally required officers of a corporation are president, treasurer & secretary. Guess I have to keep 1st one or it will confuse the authorities,” he wrote. Reuters notes that while Musk is still listed as CEO on Tesla’s investor relations webpage, his biography page on the company website “has no designation.” The same page reportedly referred to him as “chairman, product architect and CEO” before Monday’s tweet. Tesla did not respond to requests for comment from Reuters. Musk agreed to pay a $20 million fine and step aside from his role as Tesla’s chairman after the company settled charges with the Securities and Exchange Commission related to Musk’s August tweet claiming he had “secured” funding to make Tesla private. In its initial lawsuit, the SEC reportedly sought to “bar Musk as an officer or a director of a public company.”
