    Ethiopia’s Lelisa Desisa, Kenya’s Mary Keitany Win NYC Marathon

    Kenya’s Mary Keitany beat out fellow Kenyan Vivian Cheruiyot on Sunday to win the women’s New York City Marathon for the fourth time in the past five years. Keitany completed the race in a near-record time of 2:22:48, with Cheruiyot finishing more than three minutes behind her with a time of 2:26:02. Keitany’s winning time is the second-fastest in the history of the race, behind only Margaret Okayo of Kenya, who finished with a time of  2:22:31 in 2003. American runner Shalane Flanagan came in third with a time of 2:26:22. Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopa won the men’s New York City Marathon for his first time, pulling ahead late in the race to defeat defending men’s champion Geoffrey Kamworor of Kenya. Desisa finished with a time of 2:05:59.
