Julian Assange on Arrest: ‘I Told You So’

In the wake of his surprise arrest at Ecuador’s London embassy Thursday morning, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange had a message for his supporters: “I told you so.” “Since 2010, we’ve warned that Julian Assange would face prosecution and extradition to the United States [...] unfortunately, today, we’ve been proven right,” Assange’s lawyer, Jennifer Robinson, told reporters. Robinson added that “I’ve just been with Mr. Assange in the police cells. He wants to thank all of his supporters for their ongoing support—and he said ‘I told you so.’” Robinson’s comments come just hours after Assange was yanked from the embassy and arrested by British police. He was convicted for jumping bail in 2012, and now faces an extradition warrant from the United States on charges that he conspired with Chelsea Manning to hack government computers nearly a decade ago.
