Planned Parenthood, ACLU Sue to Stop Utah’s 18-Week Abortion Ban

The Utah branches of Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union have filed a federal lawsuit seeking to halt an 18-week abortion ban that passed the state’s legislature earlier this year. The ban is set to take effect on May 14, but the groups have sought a court injunction to stop the state from enforcing it. “Decades of unanimous precedent have made clear that a ban on such abortions violates the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution,” the lawsuit states. “Undeterred, Utah has yet again enacted a patently unconstitutional ban on pre-viability abortion.”
