Rick Scott, National Republican Senatorial Committee Sue Florida’s Broward County Over Votes

The National Republican Senatorial Committee and Gov. Rick Scott’s (R-FL) Senate campaign sued Broward County Supervisor of Elections Dr. Brenda C. Snipes after Scott’s lead decreased against Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL). The lawsuit, obtained by National Review, accused Snipes of one count of “Unlawful Withholding of Public Records.” It further claimed Snipes has been “unwilling to disclose records revealing how many electors voted, how many ballots have been canvassed, and how many ballots remain to be canvassed” two days after voting concluded in the 2018 midterm election. “The lack of transparency raises substantial concerns about the validity of the election process,” the lawsuit said. “A recount in at least two, possibly three, of the statewide races appears likely.” The suit also requested an “emergency hearing” on the matter, as unofficial election results must be submitted by the state’s Division of Elections by Nov. 10. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Scott announced the lawsuit and said he would “not sit idly by while unethical liberals try to steal this election” in a press conference Thursday night. “The people of Florida deserve fairness and transparency,” he said. The newspaper also reports Scott only leads Nelson by 15,175 votes as of Thursday evening, and it looks like the race will be heading for a recount.
