POTENTIAL CURES

Trump Signs Bill Helping Terminally Ill Patients Gain Access to Experimental Drugs

President Donald Trump signed the “Right to Try Act” into law on Wednesday, which allows terminally ill patients to seek medications that have not been fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The drugs will have to be in clinical trials and have passed Phase 1 of the FDA’s approval process, CNN reported. Trump said he believed that “hundreds of thousands” could be saved by the law, and questioned why the move was not done before. The act is not without some controversy, with critics claiming that the opportunity could give patients false hope and cause more money to be spent on drugs that are not yet approved. “With the passage of this bill, Americans will be able to seek cures,” Trump said at the signing.
