White House: Sadler’s McCain Remark Was ‘Dealt With Internally’

White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah said that aide Kelly Sadler’s remarks on Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) have “been dealt with internally” during a Monday afternoon press briefing. Shah also claimed Sadler “apologized directly to the family” in a phone call “late last week.” Sadler has come under fire for allegedly saying that it does not matter whether McCain supports Gina Haspel, Trump’s nominee for CIA director, because “he’s dying anyway.” Meanwhile, American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp defended Sadler on Monday, saying she was a “little bit of a victim” in the backlash against her remark. “Kelly is my friend. I feel bad she is going through this,” he said on CNN’s New Day. “She immediately called to apologize. She’s also a little bit of a victim here.” Schlapp, whose wife is the White House director of strategic communications, also claimed that whoever leaked Sadler’s remarks has “an animus against her” and she “could have meant it matter of factually.”
